Cork {Art} Flower Pot

Can you believe it?!?!  I’m actually getting a post up!  WooHoo!  I have been so busy with…LIFE.  Seriously…I swear it is a wonder I make it through my days with my head attached.  Thank goodness for fabulous wine.  At the moment, I’m drinking an amazing glass of Wiens Zinfandel.  Seriously. Delicious.  It is a local Southern California winery…and I’m in Love.  I’ve decided this must be the reason “bed time” was invented…so parents could have a glass of wine and some peace and quiet!  Cheers to that!

Over the weekend I was overtaken by a need to craft.  I have been collecting wine corks for about 4 years now.  I decided it was time to put them to good use.  I decided to cork a flower pot for my adorable boxwood topiary tree.  My daughter affectionately calls it {er, um, her} Leaf. 

It started with Leaf…the adorable boxwood topiary I found at Wal-Mart {of all places!}.  She needed a cute flower pot.  The ugly plastic faux terracotta pot just wasn’t going to do. So, one afternoon browsing my local Target store in the garden clearance area, and found this diamond in the rough. 



Um…ya….do you see that price tag?!?  It says $2.08.  No joke.  I’m pretty sure the entire store heard me declare…”Oohh….this is So Mine!”…out loud…to apparently myself.  Cause I’m cool like that. {And, yes, I know I’m in serious need of some new nail polish!}

I brought my amazing purchase home, busted out the tacky glue, and got started.



*Warning*…tacky glue was probably not the best choice of adhesive because it takes a while to dry.  Hot glue probably would have been a better choice, but I would have had to go to the store to buy more glue sticks…and, well, I was being lazy.  So, tacky glue it was…and a few clamps.  It all turned out well in the end!



I simply planned out a pattern and went to town, gluing one row at a time {drinking one glass at a time…Ok, maybe not} starting at the bottom.  I waited for each row to dry before moving on to the next.  I used quite a few corks…maybe 100?  The good thing about this project is that I now need to drink more wine to replenish my corks for more art projects!  {My hubs decided he liked this project too}



It did take me two days to complete.  But, only because I got so busy living life while waiting for the glue to dry!  But, in the end…I’m in love. 



What do you think?  I think it is really cute.  And, I’m kind of loving it on the table next to the cute lampshade I recovered…and then decorated.  And, yes, that is Chicky.
